What you need to qualify or apply
Eligibility
- Who qualifies: anyone living in Canada with a print disability — a learning, physical or visual disability that prevents reading conventional print
- Examples CELA gives: blindness/significant vision loss, dyslexia and similar reading disabilities, or inability to hold a book, turn pages, or sustain visual focus
- No doctor's note needed: CELA uses self-declaration — you state which print disability qualifies you; medical certification is only required for the optional Bookshare collection.
Documents you may need
- Formats & delivery: DAISY audio/text, Word, EPUB, HTML and electronic braille straight to your smartphone/tablet/computer or DAISY player via the *Direct to Player* app; embossed braille and print-braille by mail; the pocket-sized Envoy Connect player mailed to you; even Alexa smart-speaker playback
- Physical materials ship free under Canada Post's Literature for the Blind program.
